Campden Tablets - 50 Pack

Campden Tablets for Wine

Campden tablets are a sulphur-based product that is used primarily to sterilize your homebrew wine and cider.

Campden helps kill off bacteria and inhibit the growth of most wild yeasts.

If you opt to use Campden tablets please wait at least 24-48 hours before pitching a yeast packet.

Campden tablets are also used as an anti-oxidizing agent when transferring wine between containers.

The sodium metabisulfite in the Campden tablets will trap oxygen that enters the wine, preventing it from doing any harm.

Adding one tablet to a bucket, with a loosely fitting lid, containing five gallons of water will remove all chlorine in the water overnight.

Anyone who has been unfortunate enough to suffer from TCP in a beer will know how important this can be.

As the active ingredient of both Sodium Metabisulphite and Campden Tablets is Sulphur Dioxide, do ensure that these are used only in a well-ventilated environment, and avoid inhaling the fumes which can irritate eyes, nose and throat!
