Shop wine bottles for storing and presenting homemade wine, including clear and green 750ml glass wine bottles and smaller 187ml Bordeaux bottles. Choose individual bottles when you only need a few, or multipacks when bottling a full batch.
Glass Wine Bottles for Home Wine Making
Our empty wine bottles are suitable for home winemakers bottling wine from kits, fruit, grapes or country-wine recipes. The standard 750ml size is the familiar choice for table wine, while 187ml bottles are useful for samples, gifts and smaller servings.
Clear or Green Wine Bottles?
Clear glass shows off the colour and clarity of white, rosé and fruit wines. Green glass gives a traditional finish and offers more protection from light, making it a popular choice for red wine and bottles intended for longer storage. Whichever colour you choose, keep filled bottles somewhere cool and away from direct sunlight.
How Many 750ml Bottles Do I Need?
A 23-litre wine kit produces roughly 30 standard 750ml bottles, allowing a little for sediment and transfer losses. A 4.5-litre demijohn usually fills about six 750ml bottles. Multipacks make it easier to buy the quantity needed for a complete batch, while single bottles are ideal for replacing breakages or topping up your supply.
Choosing Closures and Bottling Equipment
Check the closure required by the bottle before filling. Standard wine bottles are commonly sealed with suitable wine corks and bottle corkers, while our 187ml screw-cap packs include matching caps. You can also find syphons, fillers, cleaning products and other essentials in our bottling equipment collection.
Preparing Bottles for Wine
Wash used or dusty bottles thoroughly, inspect the glass for chips or cracks, then clean and sanitise every bottle before filling. Allow sanitiser to drain and avoid touching the inside of the bottle or closure. Fill carefully with minimal splashing to reduce oxygen pickup, then seal with the correct closure.
Wine Bottle FAQs
Can wine bottles be reused?
Yes. Sound glass wine bottles can be reused many times if they are cleaned promptly, checked for damage and sanitised before every fill. Discard any bottle with a crack, chip or damaged neck.
Are 750ml bottles suitable for a 30-bottle wine kit?
Yes. A nominal 23-litre batch is designed to fill around 30 x 750ml wine bottles, although the final number can vary slightly depending on sediment and transfer losses.
Should I use clear or green bottles for white wine?
Either will hold the wine, but clear bottles display its colour while green bottles provide better protection from light. Store clear bottles in a dark place if the wine will be kept for any length of time.
Do wine bottles come with corks?
Not unless the product description says so. Corks and corking tools are sold separately for standard cork-finish bottles. The 187ml six-pack is supplied with compatible screw caps.
