Specific Gravity to Brix Converter
Convert hydrometer gravity reading to Brix (degrees Plato)
Brix to Specific Gravity Converter
Convert Brix or degrees Plato to specific gravity
Temperature Correction Calculator
Correct hydrometer reading for temperature (calibrated at 20°C/68°F)
How to Use a Hydrometer
1. Take a sample: Fill your hydrometer test jar with enough wine, cider, wort or beer for the hydrometer to float freely (about 100-250ml).
2. Float the hydrometer: Gently place the hydrometer in the liquid and give it a slight spin to release any bubbles.
3. Read at eye level: Read the gravity where the liquid surface meets the hydrometer scale, not at the top of the meniscus.
4. Check temperature: Most hydrometers are calibrated at 20°C (68°F). Use the temperature correction calculator if your sample is warmer or cooler.
5. Record your readings: Always record your original gravity (OG) before fermentation and final gravity (FG) when fermentation is complete to calculate ABV.
