Activated finishing carbon is an essential step in producing a clean, smooth homemade spirit. Its highly porous structure gives it an enormous surface area, allowing it to adsorb organic impurities that affect the colour, taste, and smell of your base spirit — leaving you with a neutral, odour-free foundation ready for flavouring.

Widely used in commercial distilleries and water filtration, activated carbon is one of the most effective tools for improving spirit quality before flavouring.

How to Use

• Add carbon to your base spirit and stir or agitate well
• Leave to treat for the recommended contact time (typically 24–48 hours, stirring periodically)
• Filter out the carbon using a filter paper or carbon filter tower before flavouring
