Potassium Sorbate 25g prevents secondary fermentation in wines and ciders. Use it to stabilize and extend the shelf life of your beverages.

Stop Unwanted Fermentation with Potassium Sorbate

Potassium Sorbate is an essential preservative used in homebrewing to stabilize and extend the shelf life of wines, ciders, and other fermented beverages.

This 25g pot is ideal for homebrewers who want to ensure their creations remain fresh and free from unwanted secondary fermentation.

Potassium Sorbate works by inhibiting the growth of yeast and mold, preventing further fermentation once the desired alcohol content has been achieved.

What Is Potassium Sorbate Used For?

Primarily, Potassium Sorbate is used to halt the fermentation process in wines and ciders after the desired sweetness and alcohol levels are reached.

This step prevents over-carbonation or spoilage, making it a crucial ingredient for ensuring the stability and longevity of your beverages.

How to Use Potassium Sorbate:

Mix thoroughly to ensure even distribution throughout the batch.

  • Dry Wines: Use approximately 0.5g (about 1/10 teaspoon) per 4.5 litres (1 gallon) of wine.
  • Sweet Wines: Use approximately 1g (about 1/5 teaspoon) per 4.5 litres (1 gallon) of wine. This higher dosage helps stabilize the wine and prevent further fermentation that could alter the sweetness.

Best Practice: It is recommended to use Potassium Sorbate in conjunction with sodium metabisulphite (Campden Tablets) to effectively stabilize your wine and prevent any potential spoilage before bottling.
