Syphon Tube with Tap — 1.5m x 5/16" (8mm)

This food-grade syphon tube with tap is a straightforward way to transfer beer, wine, cider or mead between vessels and into bottles. It includes approximately 1.5 metres of 5/16" tubing with a lever shut-off tap already fitted, so you can stop and restart the flow without pinching or lifting the tube.

Often searched for as a siphon tube, this is the common 8mm internal-diameter size used with many homebrew sediment traps, racking canes and small bottling accessories.

Product details

  • Tube length: approximately 1.5 metres
  • Internal diameter: 5/16" (8mm)
  • Includes: pre-fitted lever shut-off tap
  • Suitable for: transferring and bottling homebrew
  • Material: flexible food-grade tubing

How to use the syphon tube

  1. Clean and sanitise the tube, tap and any connected sediment trap before use.
  2. Place the full vessel above the empty receiving vessel.
  3. Start the syphon using your chosen racking cane, sediment trap or safe priming method.
  4. Keep the outlet below the liquid level in the source vessel and use the tap to control or stop the flow.
  5. Keep the inlet above the sediment layer and avoid splashing once fermentation is complete.

The tap controls an established flow; it does not start the syphon by itself. For easier one-stroke priming, choose a 4.5L auto syphon or 23L auto syphon.

Compatibility and alternatives

Check the outside diameter of the fitting you want to connect before ordering. This tube has an 8mm internal bore and is intended for fittings sized to suit. For a more flexible alternative sold by the metre, see the 5/16" silicone syphon tube. The lever tap is also available separately.

Cleaning and care

Rinse immediately after use, then clean and sanitise before the next transfer. Avoid abrasive brushes that could scratch the inside of the tube and harbour residue. Replace tubing if it becomes stained, cracked, persistently cloudy or retains an odour.

Frequently asked questions

Is “syphon” the same as “siphon”?
Yes. Both spellings refer to the same method of moving liquid through tubing using gravity once the flow has started.

Can I use this for beer, wine and cider?
Yes. It is suitable for transferring and bottling homebrew, provided every part is cleaned and sanitised before use.

Does it include a sediment trap?
No. This product includes the 1.5m tube and fitted shut-off tap only.
