What This Kit Makes

St Peter's IPA is a full-bodied India Pale Ale with a zesty hop character. Expect a dark golden beer with toffee aromas, floral flavours and citrus notes. Developed by Muntons with St Peter's Brewery in Suffolk, this malt extract kit gives you the ingredients for a hoppy pint without an all-grain brew day.

What Else Will You Need?

The malt needed for the standard recipe is included, so there is no need to buy extra brewing sugar, malt extract or beer enhancer for fermentation. You will need a small, measured amount of brewing sugar for priming, or suitable carbonation drops such as Mangrove Jack's or Coopers Carbonation Drops. Follow the priming directions for your bottle or barrel size.

Brewing equipment is sold separately. You will need:

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this kit need brewing sugar or beer enhancer?

No extra fermentables are required for the standard recipe: the two cans supply the malt. Priming is a separate stage, using a small dose of sugar or carbonation drops to carbonate the finished beer. Our beer enhancer and brewing sugar guide explains the difference between kit types.

Can I brew it to 23 litres?

This is a 32-pint IPA kit, rather than a standard 40-pint kit. Adding more water changes its strength and body. Use the fill volume printed on the instructions supplied with your kit for the intended result.

What temperature should I ferment it at?

Muntons' St Peter's instructions specify 18–20°C. Check the liquid temperature before adding the yeast, keep it steady during fermentation and follow the instructions supplied with your box.

How do I know when it is ready to bottle?

Check with a hydrometer. The St Peter's instructions specify a stable final gravity below 1.014; confirm that readings remain unchanged over at least two days before packaging. Airlock activity and a set number of days alone do not confirm completion. See our hydrometer guide.

How do I bottle or barrel the IPA?

Clean and sanitise everything that touches the beer. Once fermentation has finished, syphon gently off the sediment into pressure-rated beer bottles or a suitable pressure barrel. Measure priming sugar or carbonation drops for the actual packaged volume and container size, following the supplied directions. Our bottle guide covers bottle selection and care.

How long before I can drink it?

Allow roughly 3–4 weeks for fermentation and initial conditioning, with longer maturation if needed. Let fermentation finish fully, then follow the kit's warm conditioning and cool storage stages. The flavour can improve as the beer clears and settles, so treat the timing as a guide. See our St Peter's brewing instructions guide for batch-size differences.
