The Whizz Stick — Stainless Steel Wine Degasser
A drill-powered degassing tool designed to agitate wine after fermentation without introducing oxygen. The stainless steel shaft is approximately 35cm to the bung, with food-grade plastic paddles and a high-density plastic bung. Fits our 11L and 23L glass carboys. Simply attach to a 3/8" variable speed drill and away you go.
Our preferred method to check if the wine is fully degassed: taste it — if you can taste bubbles, it's not done yet.
Why Degassing Matters
Degassing is a vital step in the final stages of winemaking. It involves removing the suspended carbon dioxide left over from fermentation. Even sparkling wine begins as a still wine and must be free of CO₂ before the secondary carbonation process begins.
Leaving too much CO₂ in your wine can:
- Leave what should be a still wine carbonated
- Prevent the wine from clearing properly
- Increase the perception of acidity
