Hand Corker: The Budget Way to Cork Your Homemade Wine
If you're only bottling now and then and don't mind putting a bit of muscle into it, this simple hand corker does the job for very little outlay. Load a cork, sit it on the bottle neck and drive it home with the plunger. It needs no setup and no moving parts to wear out, and it tucks away in a drawer between batches.
How to Use
- Push a cork as far into the corker body as it will go.
- Fit the plunger into the top of the corker over the cork.
- Stand the corker squarely on the neck of your wine bottle.
- Press the plunger down firmly and steadily to drive the cork into the neck.
Tips from the Shop
- Some customers find it easier to hold the bottle with the loaded corker on top and push it against a wall.
- Soften the corks first by soaking them briefly in a weak sodium metabisulphite solution. This also sanitises them.
- Wipe a little glycerine on the inside of the corker to help the corks slide through.
