Sweet Orange Peel (100g)
Sweet orange peel for homebrewing - rich, sweet citrus character for IPAs, Belgian Whites, Christmas ales, and wheat beers
Sweet orange peel for citrus aroma and flavour in beer
Sweet orange peel is a traditional brewing adjunct that adds a bright, identifiable orange character to beer. Unlike bitter (curaçao) orange, sweet orange delivers a richer, sweeter citrus note — closer in profile to Cointreau or Grand Marnier — making it the better choice when you want a clean, forward orange flavour rather than a dry, bitter edge.
Beer Styles
Sweet orange peel is the signature ingredient in Blue Moon Belgian White and a variety of other Belgian wheat beers. It is also popular in Christmas ales, where it pairs naturally with holiday spices such as cloves and cinnamon.
- For aroma: English IPA, Belgian IPA, American IPA, Oatmeal Stout, Baltic Porter
- For flavour: American Lager, American Wheat, Blonde Ale, Hefeweizen, Berliner Weisse
How to Use
Add the peel to the kettle and steep in the wort for 3–10 minutes before the end of the boil. This preserves the aromatic oils without driving them off through prolonged boiling. Remove the peel before transferring to the fermenter — a hop bag or hop ball/tube works well for easy removal.
