CaraAroma® Malt – Weyermann
A dark caramel malt from Weyermann in Bamberg, Germany, roasted to intensify colour and develop rich, toasted sweetness. CaraAroma adds deep caramel flavour, subtle dried fruit, and smooth roast complexity — without the harsh edge of a true roasted malt. Ideal for full-bodied, malt-driven styles where depth and colour are key.
Use at up to 15% for rich caramel and colour support, or push higher in big beers like bocks, Baltic porters, or imperial styles where residual sweetness and body are welcome. Pairs particularly well with Munich or Melanoidin malt to push rich malt character without overwhelming bitterness.
Technical details
- Colour: 300–400 EBC
- Flavour: Dark caramel, raisin, toasted bread, soft roast
- Usage: Up to 15% of grain bill
- Best for: Bock, Porter, Stout, Dunkel, Belgian Dubbel
- Substitutes: Crisp Dark Crystal (lighter EBC), Weyermann Caramunich Type 2 (less roast)
Brewer's notes
Great for lifting malt presence in high-ABV beers without drying them out. The smooth sweetness and rich fruit character help balance bittering hops and high alcohol, making it a go-to for any brewer building a complex dark malt profile.
