Young's Dried Active Yeast 100g for beer and wine making. General-purpose brewing yeast; use around 1 tsp per 4.5L. Best for beer and low-alcohol wines.
Young's Dried Active Yeast 100g
Young's Dried Active Yeast is a general-purpose brewing yeast in an economical 100g tub, ideal for homebrewers who make several batches rather than buying individual yeast sachets. Young's describes it as a standard brewing yeast that can be used for both beer and wine, with the yeast particularly suited to beer and lower-alcohol wines.
What Is It Best For?
- Home-brew beer
- Lower-alcohol wines
- Country and fruit-wine recipes that call for a general-purpose yeast
- Regular brewers who want a larger, economical pack of dried active yeast
How to Use Young's Dried Active Yeast
Use approximately 1 level teaspoon per 4.5 litres (1 UK gallon), unless your recipe specifies otherwise. Add the yeast to the prepared wort or must and stir in. A warm fermentation of around 21–24°C helps the yeast activate quickly.
Always follow the instructions in your beer or wine recipe where they give a different yeast quantity or fermentation temperature.
General-Purpose Yeast or Specialist Yeast?
This is a useful everyday brewing yeast rather than a style-specific strain. If a recipe requires a particular yeast character, higher alcohol tolerance or specialist fermentation performance, choose a dedicated beer or wine yeast instead. For straightforward beer and lower-alcohol wine making, the 100g tub offers a convenient and economical option.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the same as yeast nutrient?
No. This product is the active yeast that carries out fermentation. Yeast nutrient is a separate brewing ingredient that may be called for by some wine and fermentation recipes.
Can I use it for country wine?
Yes. It can be used for wine making and is a practical general-purpose option for country and fruit wines where a specialist strain is not required.
Is it suitable for high-alcohol wine?
Young's positions this yeast as more suited to beer and lower-alcohol wines. For high-strength wines, dessert wines or recipes that specify a high-alcohol-tolerance strain, choose a specialist wine yeast.
