Bitter Orange Peel

Many types of beer taste great with subtle and bitter orange flavour, typically Belgium-style beers.

Curacao will impart a subtle citrusy, floral orange flavour and aroma but are noticeably more bitter.

Belgian Witbier

A traditional ingredient for making the wheat-based Belgian Witbier also known as white beer.

This top-fermented beer is unfiltered, resulting in a cloudy whiteness as it appears in the glass.

This style originated in the Middle Ages in Belgium and is uniquely different from other traditions.

Brewing with curacao orange peel

Brewers have various methods for using curacao but it is typically added to the kettle.

We recommend steeping the peels in the wort for 3-10 minutes before the end of the boil.

This will ensure you do not over-boil it and drive off the desired aromatic oils.

After steeping, the peel should be removed from the wort so ideally use a bag or hop ball/tube.

This method will yield the most delicate orange flavour but rules out any contamination.
